Photographer Highlight |Sittichai Maikupandin
Sittichai Maikupandin, a Thai photographer, born and raised in Bangkok. His interest in photography started in his early years of high school. However, due to his eye injury, he had to stop taking photos for quite sometime. He found his way back to photography in 2018 when he saw Taveepong’s work (Taveepong Pratoomwong) and was fascinated by it. His days in street photography started right there.
He started like everyone else, with a 35 mm., and began taking photos wherever he went. He is fond of ‘lines’ that create interesting graphics and patterns in everyday scenes. His style is influenced by both Siegfried Hansen and Saul Leiter and began experimenting with 85 mm. “When I tried the 85 mm., I felt that my photos have become somewhat ‘cleaner’ because I’m able to capture small details that encapsulate me.” His work shines a different light on Bangkok, almost a feeling of peacefulness in such a busy and ‘messy’ city. “All my work are not staged, it is spacial things I found on my walk whether human or objects. I always try to find new ways to present them.” Sittichai stated. He loves to explore the city in search for these overlooked details in everyday life. “I’m always happy whenever I found them and hope that everyone will feel the same way when looking at my photos.”
