Nikita is a German photojournalist based in Berlin whose style is described as “Street, documentary and everyday horror.” He has always find himself related to animals, and so his project, “Backyard Diaries” is another project where he photographs street cats living in urban cities.

“Last summer I saw some street cats wandering around the backyard of where I live in St. Petersburg. I found them to be fascinating and full of interesting characters”; and indeed they were. His images of different cats from different places, like Bangkok, Atlantic City and St. Petersburg, show different hidden corners and essence of each cities. Also elaborating on how the cities, people and animal coexisted in relation to each other; revealing how they cope with modern cities as a community. “I looking forward to continuing the Cat-zine series showing not only some special cats, but untypical aspects of well known touristic cities.” Nikita uses strong flash to capture the cats giving them so much life and striking personalities, which we found very charming about this project. “At some point I had the idea to make an homage to ‘Face’ project by Bruce Gilden, but at the end of the day its a mix of portraits, scenes and details of the cities.”
